Description of the project

Mandate

Spectra Premium wanted to provide consumers with a simple and efficient platform that would help them search for the automotive parts they required. Designed for the most popular platforms, the application had to be optimized to fit the screen size of mobile devices and tablets. With practicality in mind, this tool would use a picture of the license plate to search the Spectra Premium catalog for parts based on the make, model and year of the vehicle.

Client

Spectra Premium Industries has been manufacturing and distributing automotive parts for more than 25 years. With more than 1,500 employees, the company’s mission is to develop and provide premium automotive components and systems through a vast network of manufacturing and distribution centers in Canada, the US and Europe. Customer service and after-sale support are of the utmost importance for Spectra Premium who believes that superior quality service is the key to customer satisfaction.

Areas of expertise of the project

Mobile application

Spectra Premium mobile application offers several features to its users with the search tool for parts serving as its cornerstone. It is the fastest and most effective way to view the Spectra Premium catalog.

The application enables users to easily and quickly search for parts by:

  • License plate number
  • NIV (serial number)
  • Vehicle (year/make/model)

The application is linked to a database containing vehicle information based on all license plates issued in the US. The vehicle, search history and favorites are stored for future off line reference. Images are provided for each part to make the search more efficient.

Visual Recognition System

Using a visual recognition system, the application allows user to simply aim their phone’s camera towards the license plate or NIV to access a list of all parts available for their vehicle.

Tutorials & Technical Support

Users are provided with technical videos – including installation manuals and tutorials – accessible through the application. The directory is updated automatically when new video content is added. The application enables users to contact a Spectra Premium expert by phone or email for additional technical support.

Tablet application

The tablet application offers the same functionalities as the mobile application. The user experience was designed and customized to meet the requirement of that particular format. The tablet-friendly interface allows for easy browsing and provides the same tools and useful content, optimized for tablet-size screens.
